Lake Garda from Verona in a day
Lake Garda is the easiest day trip from Verona: Peschiera del Garda is a few minutes by train on the Milan line, and half an hour by car. This route works even without a driving licence.
Getting there
By train from Verona Porta Nuova to Peschiera del Garda: a few minutes, frequent services. By car, the Peschiera exit off the A4 motorway. From Peschiera, Navigazione Laghi boats reach Sirmione, Bardolino, Garda and Lazise.
Morning: Peschiera del Garda
Peschiera's old town is a Venetian fortress ringed by water, a UNESCO site: bastions, canals and the harbour take about an hour on foot, a few steps from the station.
Afternoon: Sirmione or Bardolino by boat
From Peschiera's harbour, a boat runs to Sirmione (for the castle and the Grotte di Catullo) or to Bardolino and Garda (promenade and wine). Check the return timetable before you set off.
With kids: Gardaland
If you're travelling with children, the alternative is to give the whole day to Gardaland: there's a free shuttle from Peschiera del Garda station. In that case, skip the rest of this itinerary.
