Events in Cavriana – Lake Garda
Cavriana looks out over the morainic hills of the Mantua area from above; its castle, which passed to the Gonzaga family in 1367, became a refined Renaissance residence with the help of architects such as Luca Fancelli. During the 1859 battle, Villa Mirra served first as Austrian and then French headquarters: it was from here that Napoleon III announced victory to his wife.
In July the town comes alive with the "Palio della Capra d'Oro", a historical costume parade with contests between neighbourhood contradas; Villa Mirra today houses the archaeological museum.
